Role
Neil is the Engineering Director for Merlin and this role gives him responsibility for all service delivery and development. Neil oversees the delivery of engineering, operations, training and software services while also prioritising areas of development for these services. He delivers ERD and stuck pipe prevention training courses and has recently done stuck pipe related expert witness work and completed drilling problem event investigations.
Background
Neil joined Merlin in 2013 after working on ERD and complex well projects as a senior drilling engineer and team lead for ExxonMobil in the UK, USA and Malaysia. Neil started in the oil and gas industry working on rigs delivering directional drilling services and in an earlier incarnation he led soldiers on operations as an officer serving with the British Army.
Expertise
Neil’s main areas of expertise are drilling engineering and operations for complex, high angle wells. He is particularly interested in training and developing courses that efficiently and effectively deliver knowledge and skills needed to deliver trouble-free high angle wells.
Interests
Neil enjoys rugby (although now limited to watching), mountain biking, running and other sports. He has completed several ultra-distance running and cycling events including The Wall Run and the Silk Road Mountain Race.
