9 5/8” Liner: Post-Job Analysis

This project was to conduct a 9 5/8" Liner

Background

This case study focuses on the post-job analysis of a Polyphosphoric Acid (PPA) infill drilling campaign, aiming to enhance zonal isolation. The document in question covers critical aspects such as cementing summary, job execution, evaluation, log details, synthetic log comparison, density control, CE-BOND, conclusions, cement log progressive improvement, and potential risks to zonal isolation. The background sets the stage for understanding the complexities of the drilling campaign and the need for a detailed analysis.

Objectives

The primary objective is to optimise zonal isolation in the context of the PPA infill drilling campaign. Specific goals include assessing cement coverage and quality, identifying areas for improvement, understanding potential risks, and providing recommendations for enhanced performance in future drilling operations.

Work Methodology

The work methodology involves a systematic review of the documented information from the drilling campaign, utilising data related to job execution, log details, synthetic log comparison, and other relevant parameters. This comprehensive approach ensures a holistic understanding of the factors influencing zonal isolation.

Solution

Solutions include refining density control procedures, implementing measures to minimise front-end contamination, and addressing potential causes of defects. Recommendations are outlined for continuous monitoring, adjustment, and proactive risk mitigation to enhance zonal isolation in future drilling campaigns. The solutions provided aim to improve overall cementing performance and contribute to the success and integrity of similar drilling operations.

Conclusions

  • Green Pressure Testing of the 9 5/8” Liner had a positive effect.
  • Continue looking for alternatives to replace the LiteCRETE
  • Improvement is still required in density control while mixing on the fly.
  • Experience from this and previous wells suggest effective hole excess to be about 0 – 5% (from FCP and Logs)
  • Front-end contamination between mud, spacer and lead slurry was significantly minimised (bottom plug between spacer/lead)
  • Cement coverage was assessed well at 612-637m and 658-1310m (logs).
  • Cement quality and coverage from 1310 to 9 5/8” shoes are assumed to be reasonable based on logs and computer simulation trends.
